Ants

Ants are the most common household pests, but they're also super interesting. There are over 10,000 species of ants worldwide an they come in all sizes, from tiny to about 2 inches long. Most are black or red, but some are green or metallic.

Ant colonies are complex social structures consisting of a queen, female workers, and males. Only the queen can lay eggs and she spends her whole life doing just that. Some colonies have one queen, while others have many.

Ants are omnivores. They can eat other fungi or insects, and some species of ants have been known to prey on larger animals like reptiles or birds. They are quite intelligent, with chemical signals used to alert other ants of danger or when prospective food sources are near. Ants may be small, but they have such a layered and complex system for their way of life.

Even though ants are fascinating, having them in your house can be a big problem. Make sure to seal up any holes they might be using to get inside and keeping things clean is important too. Even the tiniest crumb can feed a whole colony of ants.
