How do termite bait stations work?
1.Strategic Installation: Technicians install small, slotted plastic tubes into the ground around the perimeter of your house, usually spaced 10 to 20 feet apart. The caps sit flush with the soil, so they do not interfere with lawnmowers or landscaping.
2.Discovery by Foragers: Termites are blind and constantly forage for food randomly through the soil. Eventually, they bump into the stations. Inside the station is a cellulose-rich material (often paper, cardboard, or compressed wood) that is highly attractive to termites—often more appealing than the wood in your home.
3.Consumption and Sharing: The cellulose bait is laced with a slow-acting active ingredient—usually a chitin synthesis inhibitor. This chemical prevents termites from successfully molting (shedding their exoskeletons), which is a fatal disruption to their life cycle. Because it acts slowly, the foraging termites do not die immediately at the station.
4.Colony Elimination: This process can take weeks to months. The foragers carry the poisoned bait back to the nest and share it with the rest of the colony, including the queen.
